How are samples collected?
Testing can be done by a buccal cheek swab
or by a blood draw. The buccal swab sample
is collected by gently massaging the inside
of the person’s mouth. This procedure is non-invasive
and painless and can even be performed on newborns.
Blood can also be used for testing if desired. Blood
can be drawn in our offices, or in any one
of our nationwide network of laboratory draw
sites. Unique specimens can be also used if
circumstances warrant. This includes prenatal
samples, or samples from a deceased individual,
such as hair, teeth or other tissues.
All
testing including all information and all results
are kept strictly confidential. Results are provided
only to those adult persons who were tested and
have requested the results, or to other individuals
authorized by the tested parties to receive the
results, such as lawyers. You determine how results
are delivered including by standard mail, fax
or overnight delivery for an additional fee.
Personal information and results are never released
without proper prior authorization.
Can paternity testing be performed before
the child is born?
Yes. Dad Test™ DNA Identification
testing can be performed prior to the birth
of a child. DNA testing can be done with a
chorionic villi sample (CVS), performed between
10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy, or by amniocentesis
testing, performed after 16 weeks of pregnancy.
Either of these procedures can be performed
by an OB/GYN, or by one of our experienced
physicians in our network. We also have experienced
prenatal specialists on staff to help you through
the process and to answer your questions regarding
these special services.
Can paternity testing be performed non-invasively
before the child is born?
Yes. Noninvasive testing
means testing without an amniocentesis or CVS. Call
us to find out more information on this new
testing service.
Is it necessary for the mother
to be involved
in the testing?
No. Motherless DNA Identification is requested
when only the father is available for testing. The
same degree of legal accuracy applies to these
cases as our standard trio cases including
the mother, child and alleged father.
Family reconstruction studies can be performed
when only some family members are available
for testing. This may mean using grandparents
and a child, for example.
Legal or Non-legal testing - Which one
do I need?
Different people have different needs. That’s
why we offer different services so that you
can decide what is best for your situation.
Legally
conclusive DNA Identification means that a strict
chain-of -custody is maintained to ensure the
admissibility of the results in a court of law.
All parties are positively identified and photographed
at a collection facility. All testing is performed
in a secured and monitored facility under the
highest standards of quality control. Every report
is double-checked and verified before sending
the results.
Completely confidential
DNA Identification can be chosen when you do not
anticipate needing to use this information in
a court of law. A kit can be mailed to you, so
that the samples may be collected by you in the
privacy of your own home. Because the samples
are not collected at a collection facility, the
test result is labeled as a completely confidential
collection, and may not be admissible in a court
of law. If peace of mind is your main concern,
than this test may be right for you.
Regardless of how the samples were collected
whether legally conclusive or completely confidential
self collection kit, the same high laboratory
testing standards are used for all tests performed.
